THE BIG BLACK UMBRELLA

When I was a little girl

I loved to walk in the rain.

Not a heavy shower

With lightning and thunder

But a soft, warm rain

Falling steady and gently

On a Spring day in May.

I'd carry my father's

Big black umbrella.

It enveloped me.

I felt serene in the quiet space

Underneath the big black Umbrella -

And quite grown-up too.
