NIHON-BASHI BRIDGE - IN THE 1200s
(ED0) - - TOOKYOO's FORMER NAME

SOFTENING (NIGORI) IN SPEECH AND THE
POSTPOSITION (NO)
The are no fixed rules in Japanese gramma for the
euphonic softening (NIGORI) of some spoken syllables, - - - such as DA for TA, Go for KO,
etc., and we may find in almost any book UKITA and UKIDA, TAKIKAWA and TAKIGAWA, ETC. The
most common pronounciation has been followed. The postposition NO between the name and
forename has been mostly omitted. Formerly in common use, it has been gradually dropped;
thus we can say - - - MINATO NO YORITOMO or MINATO YORITOMO.
