A LITTLE TALK ABOUT POETRY

POETRY - THE MUSIC OF WORDS

It is a splendid thing to be able to say something which the world will never forget, and many books that will never die have been made up of fine words spoken and written by great men and women. Many of these never-to-be-forgotten words are in poems. There are thousands of beautiful poems that most of us will never get to read. Poetry is literature's most valuable gem. It helps us to know and enjoy goodness, happiness, and hope in words that sound like music. It stimulates our minds, causes us to reflect upon the most profound thoughts, and steers us into directions we may never have thought of considering.

MANDALA ART FORM - Mandala drawings are circular art configurations. This form of art goes back thousands of years in history. Mandalas were used in Hindu, Buddist and other religions as graphic representations. In China and Japan family crests were sometimes drawn in Mandala fashion. In modern times many larger business corporations have used the idea of the MANDALA design pattern in their trade marks.

NEW THOUGHTS - - - NEW WORLDS

There are two ways of of writing a story, or telling about a place, thing, or event. One way is to write it down in words like those we use in speaking to one another every day. Another way is called 'poetry', with words that are far sweeter, more romantic and musical than in ordinary writing. Words put together in a condensed specially configurated form, that compels the reader to absorb in a concentrated manner profound ideas and verbal perceptions. It opens the mind of the reader to seeing into worlds of thought that might never before have been considered.

THE SINGING OF STORIES

Poetry began, very likely, with the desire for singing, which occurs when we are very happy, or after a success or achievment of one kind or another. In ancient times people could not read or write, but there were story tellers. They were individuals with a good memory who were capable of telling stories about mythological events, successful battles and heros of the times. Gradually, these story tellers probably evolved from singing stories of events into poetic expressions that rhymed in a semi-musical form.
